Presentation—: Renewables 2018 Global Status Report

TranscriptWebinar audio transcript

The Clean Energy Solutions Center, in partnership with the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21), hosted this webinar on the launch of REN21’s flagship report, Renewables 2018 Global Status Report (GSR).

Renewables uptake continues to increase rapidly, but that uptake is not happening quickly enough to reduce energy-related CO2 emissions or to meet the UN’s Sustainable Developmental Goal 7. This is largely due to sectoral and regional imbalances, along with increasing energy demand.

The webinar began with an overview of REN21’s newly released Renewables 2018 Global Status Report. It then investigated the “two realities” of the renewable energy transformation: (1) dynamic renewable power industry, driving rapid uptake and (2) what is holding the overall energy transformation back. The presentation ended with possible measures needed to accelerate the transformation to a renewable energy future.

The webinar presentation was followed by an interactive question and answer session with the audience.

The presenter was Rana Adib, Executive Secretary, the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21).
