Aligning NDCs and LTS: Connecting Short-Term and Long-Term Planning
12 June 2024
Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Strategies (LTS) are at the heart of climate planning for many countries. In 2025, countries will submit updated NDCs to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) highlighting their new or updated goals to reach commitments outlined in the Paris Agreement.
Leading up to the workshop, this webinar series, presented in partnership with the Clean Energy Solutions Center, highlights key elements of the NDC and LTS processes and shares experiences from policymakers around the world. Focusing on NDCs and LTS, the global workshop supports countries in aligning their NDCs with long-term goals and provide pathways for planning, implementing, and financing those commitments.
In the second webinar in this series, experts delve into the pivotal role that LTS play in shaping sustainable futures. This session provides a high-level overview of LTS, exploring their importance in guiding national policies and international cooperation on climate change. The relationship between NDCs and LTS is also highlighted, offering insights into how these frameworks interact to drive ambitious climate action. Specific examples are shared from Chile, examining its approach to long-term goal setting and how these goals and subsequent actions align with global climate objectives.
