The Netherlands join the Clean Energy Ministerial

Copenhagen, 24 May – The Netherlands have officially joined the Clean Energy Ministerial in Copenhagen today, signifying the forum’s ambitions to accelerate the global clean energy transition.
The Netherlands have become the 26th Member of the Ministerial group, having participated as an Observer country in the CEM since 2017 and been an active participant in the CEM’s technical work streams.
The country is already a member of the flagship Electric Vehicles Initiative dedicated to accelerating the introduction and adoption of electric vehicles worldwide, and its campaign EV30@30 – a campaign dedicated to speed up the deployment of electric vehicles and target at least 30 percent new electric vehicle sales by 2030. The Netherlands have also been an active member of the Multilateral Solar and Wind Working Group dedicated to promoting deployment of solar and wind technologies.
“I am pleased that the Netherlands is joining the Clean Energy Ministerial”, the Netherland’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy Eric Wiebes said today. “Our membership underscores the Dutch ambition to achieve sustainable, low-carbon energy supply. We are also working to further increase the EU’s 2030 greenhouse gas reduction goal from 40% up to 55% in order to live up to the Paris Agreement”.
Today’s announcement was welcome by all CEM Members and further cemented the Clean Energy Ministerial’s role in accelerating the deployment of clean energy technologies globally.

The Clean Energy Ministerial is a partnership of the world’s key economies working together to advance the deployment of clean energy. Together, they account for approximately 90% of the world’s clean energy investments and 75% of global emissions. The CEM combines an annual high-level Ministerial meeting with year-round technical work through action-driven, transformative clean energy initiatives and campaigns, led by governments and supported through strong partnerships with the private sector, international organizations, and other stakeholders.
