Companies can invest in clean energy in several ways, such as by (1) procuring energy efficiency upgrades either directly or via energy service contracts, (2) investing directly in clean energy products by providing equity or tax equity, (3) serving as a renewable energy “offtaker” through the wholesale market or power purchase agreement, (4) purchasing renewable energy certificates or (5) participating in a community solar, utility green tariff or other programs.
