Land Consumption
Large tracts of land are taken out of food production because of urbanization. Construction industries’ effects on land and soil primarily occur from deforestation and taking prime agricultural land out of production or polluting the soil. The energy industries’ impact on resources that are needed for the food supply chain can include topics such as fuel versus food, crop selection, the detrimental effects to land from petroleum development, electricity production and natural gas extraction.
