Operational Analysis of the Eastern Interconnection at Very High Renewable Penetrations
Sources:
National Renewable Energy Laboratory
Date:
1 September 2018
This study builds upon earlier research to model the U.S. Eastern Interconnection with around 70% energy sourced from wind and solar. It evaluates electricity supply-demand balance using a five-minute resolution model for unit commitment and economic dispatch. The report also quantifies various stress metrics like spare capacity, non-synchronous generator penetration, and others.
