Energy Efficiency in Small Scale Industries: An Indian Perspective

This paper finds that the poor energy and environmental performance of small-scale industries (SSIs) in India is directly related to a lack of technical capacity. An effective strategy to promote energy efficiency is to use a cluster-based approach by which energy efficient technologies and practices can be demonstrated to a group of companies that are located in proximity to each other and might share technology, operating, and trade practices. Case studies from the foundry, glass, and brick industries support these observations.
