G7 Ministers Welcome and Highlight Multiple CEM Workstreams
Released last week, the UK’s historic G7 Climate and Environment Communique highlights what’s needed to keep 1.5 degrees C within reach, including specific attention to several CEM workstreams and the launch of the third phase of the CEM– CEM3.0!
Equal by 30
G7 Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the Equal by 30 campaign– which aims to work towards equal pay, leadership and opportunities for women in the clean energy sector by 2030. This commitment highlights the need for putting diversity and gender equality at the centre of the clean energy transition. Learn more about the Equal by 30 Campaign here.
SEAD
G7 Ministers have welcomed the CEM’s Super-Efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) Initiative, endorsed its goal of doubling the efficiency of four key energy-using products and sold globally by 2030 (lighting, cooling, refrigeration, and motor systems), and agreed to contribute to that end by using the full policy toolkit at their disposal. Learn more about SEAD here.
IDDI
G7 Ministers welcomed the launch of the Industrial Deep Decarbonisation Initiative (IDDI). IDDI will formally launch this year at CEM12 (1 June 14:00 CEST), and will work to create market demand for decarbonised industrial products like steel and cement. The launch is open to all– register here.
