Japan is now taking further steps in creating a long-term CCS strategy, after industrial-scale experience gained from the Tomakomai project.
In this webinar, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will present Japan’s new CCS Roadmap. The roadmap envisages 120 to 240 million tons CO2 stored per year by 2050. According to the Roadmap, it is necessary to launch new CCS projects and increase the annual storage capacity by about 6 to 12 million tons annually during 20 years from 2030 to 2050.
To achieve this, a conducive CCS business environment shall be prepared by 2030, including actions to achieve cost reductions, improve public understanding, enhance overseas CCS promotion, and put in place necessary legislation. It is envisaged that full-scale CCS business will be deployed starting 2030.
