What Data Say: A Look at the (Just?) Transition to a Greener Economy
When policymakers describe the just transition to a greener economy, they often point to job training programs and social protections as key policy levers to use in that pursuit. Seven years post-Paris, what empirical data do we have about how these transitions look in practice and how the transition impacts people along gender and age? Are green transitions accelerating, decelerating, or in revers at the country level? Join CEM’s Empowering People Initiative and LinkedIn for the launch of LinkedIn’s new Career Pathways for Green Skills Report.

IEA Battery Supply Chains
International collaboration on standard setting, information sharing, sector coupling, cross-border trade in materials, and urban transformation will help us reach our clean energy goals more quickly than ever previously thought. CEM’s Electric Vehicles Initiative is delighted to join colleagues at this IEA and Korean government-organised event at Sharm El-Sheikh and will work with the whole energy storage and EV community to accelerate the deployment of these vital technologies.
Industrial Deep Decarbonization Event on Advancing Green Steel
What challenges and opportunities exist in that advancement of standards for green steel? Join CEM’s Industrial Deep Decarbonisation Initiative (IDDI) members as they discuss clear criteria for greening up this industry through energy efficiency measures, clean heat and power, local material usage and better transport methods.

Breakthrough Agenda — One Year On
The Breakthrough Agenda was launched a year ago at COP26 by world leaders, representing the majority of CEM countries. A lot can happen in a year, and in consultation with our members, the CEM is proud to help take forward this important agenda alongside Mission Innovation. The Breakthrough Agenda was devised as a way to ensure the international architecture works to the benefit of everyone and bridges are built across initiatives and coalitions. In this way, its mission aligns closely with the purpose of the CEM as a platform to bring together coalitions of the willing from across the clean energy landscape. With the support of the outgoing COP Presidency, the United Kingdom, we will deliver on this agenda over the coming year, focusing on hydrogen, steel, road transport and power sectors.

Breakthrough Agenda — Power Breakthrough Priority Actions for 2023
The Power Breakthrough works to ensure that clean power is more affordable, accessible and attractive than the alternatives globally by 2030. Co-chairs of this initiative, Morocco and the UK, will showcase what further international actions must do in 2023 to reach 2030 goals for the 36 power signatory governments.
The Role of Digitalization and Smart, Super-efficient Appliances in Reducing Energy Consumption
CEM’s Super Efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment Initiative (SEAD) will bring together governments, companies, and other actors to discuss what policy packages and programmes are needed to balance the system and how initiatives such as SEAD are a critical global focal point for supporting countries with accelerating their clean energy transition through appliance efficiency.

Decarbonization efforts by the Indian Steel Industry
The event will showcase the Indian steel industry’s efforts towards decarbonization and will bring together experts from governments, industries and international organisations.
Building a Climate Club to Lever Industrial Decarbonisation
At their summit in Elmau in June 2022, the G7 committed to found an open and inclusive international Climate Club to support the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement by accelerating climate action and increasing ambition, with a particular focus on the industry sector. Discussants from industry, government and international organisations will share their perspectives on the Climate Club and discuss how it can speed up decarbonisation in the hard to abate sectors.
Growing Demand and Implementing Standards for Near-Zero Steel: What’s Next for Governments and Companies
This event will be a discussion on the actions that countries and businesses should take on standards and procurement for low carbon near zero steel, including discussing the work of key international initiatives like the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Industrial Deep Decarbonisation Initiative (IDDI) and the First Movers Coalition.

Financing the ramp-up of global hydrogen markets: The way forward and first experiences from early movers
Making green hydrogen affordable and globally available by 2030 requires an enormous increase in investment. Some governments are already taking initiative by deploying novel financing mechanisms, such as Carbon Contracts for Difference and the German government’s H2Global initiative. This side event will discuss the role public funds will have to play to de-risk investment and lever private funds, and the key actions needed by policy makers to develop the necessary financial structures.
Carbon Management and Industrial decarbonization: Cement, Steel, and Beyond
With energy intensive industries pursuing ambitious climate targets, carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is expected to play a strong role along that journey. Industries, such as steel, shipping, and cement have said CCS is a required technology in their net-zero transition. Join the Global CCS Institute and CEM CCUS initiative at COP26 as we speak to industry and policy experts on climate change mitigation and the value of CCS as it relates to industrial decarbonisation.
