Ministers and other leaders announce new efforts to help countries achieve clean energy goals

Several events at the 22nd United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP22) highlighted the value and impact of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) as a global platform to help countries implement their clean energy goals and achieve their nationally determined contributions (NDCs). CEM initiatives and campaigns were featured and new efforts announced to accelerate clean energy deployment that will help achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement while boosting economies and increasing energy security.

Major Countries Commit to Increasing the Share of Electric Vehicles in Government Fleets

Eight major nations signed a Government Fleet Declaration on November 16, pledging to increase the share of electric vehicles in their government fleets and calling for other governments to join them. The Declaration was announced at the Marrakech Climate Change Conference (COP22) and was developed under the aegis of the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI).

At the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) in Marrakech, Morocco, energy leaders from across the globe are focusing on concrete steps and celebrating actions taken that will achieve the priorities of the Paris Agreement, including the promotion of energy access worldwide. Swedish Energy Network Announces Power Woman of the Year

On 25 October, the Swedish female network Kraftkvinnorna, or “Power Women,” hosted its first “Power Woman of the Year” award ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. Power Women, created in the spring of 2015, works to promote and support female advancement and attract women to the Swedish energy sector. The three Swedish C3E Ambassadors—Elisabet Falemo, Elin Löfblad, and Annika Viklund—are also members of Power Women.

2017 Global Energy Management Awards Program Launches, Now Accepting Entries

Top winners to be honored on international stage at eighth Clean Energy Ministerial in 2017

Announced today, the 2017 CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards will raise global awareness of the benefits of energy management and accelerate uptake of these systems to support corporate, national, and global climate goals. Organizations that have an ISO 50001-certified energy management system may compete for these prestigious awards. The submission deadline is 24 January 2017.

Since 2011, the Clean Energy Ministerial’s 21st Century Power Partnership has brought major players from the public and private sector together at the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) Summit to drive change. At this year’s 3GF Summit Partnership Session—which took place on 7 June 2016 in Copenhagen, Denmark—speakers from the United States, China, European Union (Denmark), Ukraine, Mexico, and Chile provided global perspectives on the transformation to a more sustainable power system following COP21 and debated the conclusions with about 70 high-level participants.

Global LEAP Competition for World’s Most Innovative Off-Grid Refrigerators Launched

USAID and DFID make $600,000 in cash prizes available for the competition’s market-leading innovators

The United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) Ideas to Impact Programme (I2I) joined the Global LEAP Awards Off-Grid Refrigerator Competition, a global competition aimed at spurring innovation in the emerging off-grid refrigeration market and advancing access to modern energy services around the world. I2I’s partnership and support increases the total award prize to $600,000.

International Smart Grid Action Network Publishes T&D Casebook Version 2.0

The Clean Energy Ministerial’s International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) has released a new casebook, Spotlight on Smart and Strong Power T&D Infrastructure Version 2.0, which provides insight and knowledge on smart grid approaches to managing increasingly complex power systems.
