Clean Energy Solutions Center Drives Global Clean Energy Policies in 2016

The Clean Energy Solutions Center (“Solutions Center”) is a unique, high-impact initiative under the Clean Energy Ministerial that has driven global clean energy policy development since its inception in 2011. The Solutions Center is delivering vital capacity-building and clean energy policy and finance advisory services to support governments in reaching their ambitious clean energy, climate, and development targets.

Clean Energy Ministerial Secondment Joins World Bank Group

Last year, the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) at the World Bank announced a partnership to help developing countries integrate renewable energy into their power grids. One of the first activities in this partnership was a staff assignment from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to ESMAP. Since August 2015, this “secondment” at ESMAP has facilitated better communication between NREL, ESMAP, and the CEM initiative teams. Nate Blair was selected for the staff assignment.

The Clean Energy Ministerial Highlighted at COP21

The 21st United Nations climate conference (COP21) in Paris brought the world together in an effort to tackle climate change and set the world on a low-carbon pathway. With a successful outcome and a historic agreement reached, the focus now shifts to the “road from Paris.” One of the most crucial solutions to climate change is a global transition to clean energy, making the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) more important and more relevant than ever. Several events at COP21 featured the role of the CEM as an implementation forum and highlighted results from CEM initiatives. New CEM campaigns were also launched to raise the visibility and direct much-needed resources to targeted areas that have particular potential for impact.

Clean Energy Solutions Center Expands Policy Assistance and Provides New Services on Finance

Expanded services and resources will help countries achieve national clean energy and climate goals

As the climate negotiations continue during COP21 in Paris, the Clean Energy Ministerial announced a major scale-up of its Clean Energy Solutions Center to help countries implement solutions post-Paris to achieve their clean energy and climate goals. The expansion includes scaling up the highly successful Ask An Expert service and launching new services on clean energy finance.
