COP22 Features Global LEAP and Energy Access Partners

At the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) in Marrakech, Morocco, energy leaders from across the globe are focusing on concrete steps and celebrating actions taken that will achieve the priorities of the Paris Agreement, including the promotion of energy access worldwide. Among the activities featured at Marrakech were those of the Clean Energy Ministerial’s (CEM’s) Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP) and its partners.

Promoting Energy Access through a Quality Assurance Framework for Isolated Mini-Grids

The Global LEAP initiative is supporting the development of a quality assurance framework for isolated mini-grids that will address both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) mini-grids and be applicable to renewable, fossil-fuel, and hybrid systems. It will define standard technical categories and uniform operational elements for mini-grids, and it will preserve flexibility by accounting for the different levels of service that are appropriate for different tiers of end-user needs.
