New CEM Campaign Aims for Goal of 30% New Electric Vehicle Sales by 2030

The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) announced a new campaign called EV 30@30 to speed up the deployment of electric vehicles and target at least 30 percent new electric vehicle sales by 2030. The campaign will support the market for electric passenger cars, light commercial vans, buses and trucks (including battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell vehicle types). It will also work towards the deployment of charging infrastructure to supply sufficient power to the vehicles deployed.

CEM initiatives and campaigns to be highlighted at COP21

In December, representatives from virtually every nation in the world will gather in Paris, France, for the 21st United Nations climate conference (COP21). While this road to Paris has been critical to enable an agreement, the road from Paris will be equally important. The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) will play a critical role, not just in helping countries deliver on their respective clean energy goals but also in building confidence and the capacity to increase ambition even further over time. Several events at COP21 will feature the CEM's role as an implementation forum.

The EV City Casebook: 50 Big Ideas is one of the Low Carbon Champions for 2014–2015, as announced by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP). The Casebook was a cooperative effort of the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI), the International Energy Agency’s Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Implementing Agreement, and future city think tank Urban Foresight and was recognized as the Low Carbon Publication or Report of the Year.

It reports on positive trends for global EV deployment between 2008 and 2014, including strong investment, rising sales and stock totals, expanded infrastructure for EV charging, and improvements in battery cost and density. The Global EV Outlook represents the collective effort of 7 years of primary data gathering and analysis by the EVI’s 16 member governments, which together accounted for more than 95% of global EV stock in 2014.
