COP22 Features Global LEAP and Energy Access Partners

At the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) in Marrakech, Morocco, energy leaders from across the globe are focusing on concrete steps and celebrating actions taken that will achieve the priorities of the Paris Agreement, including the promotion of energy access worldwide. Among the activities featured at Marrakech were those of the Clean Energy Ministerial’s (CEM’s) Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP) and its partners.

Global Development Leaders to Accelerate Universal Energy Access through Greater Energy Efficiency

Led by the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership and the Sustainable Energy for All initiative, the Efficiency for Access Coalition will accelerate access to enhanced modern energy services beyond lighting by 2030

The Efficiency for Access (E4A) Coalition, a new collaborative effort between the CEM’s Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP) and Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) to accelerate universal access to energy. E4A will bring together and amplify the efforts of global development partners to harness the power of energy efficiency to achieve universal access to enhanced energy services—beyond lighting—by 2030.

This document presents the results of a Global LEAP survey of energy access professionals, reporting on the appliance products that they think are likely to inspire the greatest off-grid consumer demand over the next 3 to 5 years, and the appliances that they think are likely to drive the greatest energy access (e.g., socioeconomic or environmental) benefits. Survey respondents ranked LED room lighting appliances as the top appliance driving off-grid consumer demand, and the top product driving the energy access benefits.

On July 31–August 1, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP) will host an Off-Grid Industry Networking Event, which will bring together off-grid solar market leaders and manufacturers of super-efficient, high-quality off-grid appliances to accelerate the growth of off-grid markets in Bangladesh and across the globe.
