New Commitments Highlight Progress of Energy Management Campaign at Eighth Clean Energy Ministerial

Governments, companies, and international partners step up their efforts to accelerate implementation of ISO 50001

Partners shared their newest commitments to the Energy Management Campaign with an international assembly of high-level clean energy leaders attending the 8th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8), which took place June 6–8 in Beijing, China. One of the highlights of the three-day event, the Campaign aims, by 2020, to achieve 50,001 global certifications to ISO 50001, the global energy management system standard. During related CEM8 events, governments, global business leaders, and other key partners outlined concrete actions they will take to promote ISO 50001 and make progress towards climate and energy goals.

Since its launch one year ago, the Advanced Cooling Challenge has recruited 26 commitments & $1.4 billion in investments from national governments, and global leading manufacturers, institutions, & NGOs

Today, at the eighth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8), the Advanced Cooling Challenge (ACC) announced that it has recruited 26 commitments and $USD 1.4 billion of investments towards developing and deploying energy-efficient air conditioners that use low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants.

13 new companies have committed 6 billion products to advance efficient lighting

At an Eighth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8) side event on efficient lighting, 13 companies announced new commitments to the Global Lighting Challenge (GLC) totaling nearly 6 billion LED lighting products. The GLC has now reached 14 billion high efficiency, high quality lighting products committed, surpassing its 10 billion light goal set at the sixth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM6) two years ago.

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) hosted a day-long workshop to deliberate on a strategy for super-efficient cooling systems. As a result, leading manufacturers such as Voltas, Blue Star, Godrej, Daikin, Whirlpool, and Panasonic pledged their support to develop and deploy super-efficient cooling systems in their complexes and facilities. They also endorsed the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Advanced Cooling (AC) Challenge.

Annual Moscow Forum Provides Platform for Agreement

City mayors and official representatives from all over the world gathered in Moscow in November for a meeting on energy efficiency and sustainable city development. Russia is a member of the Clean Energy Ministerial, a global partnership working to accelerate the global clean energy transition. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ENES 2016 V International Energy Efficiency and Energy Development Forum. A key outcome was a declaration of dedication to energy efficiency and sustainable development.

COP22 Side Event: The Strong Potential of LED Lighting in Africa

At the COP22 climate conference in Marrakech, Morocco, the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP’s) United for Efficiency (U4E) effort collaborated with the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) to organize a 16 November side event: “Energy-Efficient Lighting for Africa and Beyond.” The event raised awareness about the savings possible from light-emitting diodes (LED lighting) in Africa and announced a new partnership between U4E and Energy Efficiency Services Limited of India. During the event, the CEM invited African participants to join its Global Lighting Challenge.

Major Countries Commit to Increasing the Share of Electric Vehicles in Government Fleets

Eight major nations signed a Government Fleet Declaration on November 16, pledging to increase the share of electric vehicles in their government fleets and calling for other governments to join them. The Declaration was announced at the Marrakech Climate Change Conference (COP22) and was developed under the aegis of the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI).

2017 Global Energy Management Awards Program Launches, Now Accepting Entries

Top winners to be honored on international stage at eighth Clean Energy Ministerial in 2017

Announced today, the 2017 CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards will raise global awareness of the benefits of energy management and accelerate uptake of these systems to support corporate, national, and global climate goals. Organizations that have an ISO 50001-certified energy management system may compete for these prestigious awards. The submission deadline is 24 January 2017.
